My company has two sites each with their own Windows 2003 Server. One site is set up as a Domain with each of the 8 PCs attached to the domain using the same userid (i know, bad, i'll fix). The domain is called oth.net.

The second site is setup as a workgroup with each of the 15 PCs attached to the server with a mapped drive back to the server. The workgroup is called dol.loc.

We want to establish DFS between the two sites so from what I have read the best practice is to have the DFS implemented between DCs. The two locations are connected via DSL but the amount of replication traffic should be <50MB each day.

    • What is the best way to configure the two domains? Does the dol.loc need to be converted to a Domain named oth.net or does it matter?

    • After converting the workgroup to a domain is it just a matter of copying each PCs profile to the new domain area or is there some automatic way to do this?

    Thanks for your help.

    Hi

Do you need DFS only for file replication?

Yes. I need to make sure a .mdb file and some other files are in sync between the two locations.
