This is a hard one to explain. I don't recall this problem after intial install but it has been more annoying since. And, of course I have a ton of programs and do not klnow which one did this, so I'm hoping someone out there has seen this one.

The picture at the URL probably does a better job than my description. I'm running a PC with Windows XP Pro. Sometime in the recent past my automatic message windows, the ones that come up with errors and suggestions from programs, have increased the font size and the words run off of the formatted area so that I am unable to make sense of the message (see URL). Anyone have some bright ideas?[IMG]

Have you tried going back into Display Properties -> Themes and changed the Theme back to Windows XP?

It was set to Windows XP. But, for the sake of being thorough I changed it, checked the window...same problem. And changed it back...same problem.

    Saw that once

Only it was way back when 98SE was pretty new, eventually tracked it down to dodgy display drivers.

Did you use upgrade install of XP? If so are u using XP's display driver that was installed or the proper latest one for your vga?

Just a long shot but I thought I'd chip in.....

Yes, I'm using a digitally signed Windows XP monitor driver. And this problem has occured on two different monitors a flat screen and an LCD.

Yes, my windows is up to date. I did try an update this past weekend (I do a backup, defrag, virus update, and a windows up date every weekend). Just did an update scan again...no updates found.

Have you checked under Display Properties Advanced and see if you have selected Large Fonts instead of Small. Some programs will not run correctly with Large Fonts selected.

Yeah, I'm gonna have to agree with lfotto that it is something in your display properties. The only other time I've seen something like this happen that was REALLY flakey was in WFW 3.11 where someone had inadvertantly DELETED the font that Windows was using....that had a less the favorable effect!!!

I have not had a chance to check that yet, but now that you've mentioned it...I do remember having some font issues with installing some business software when I first installed XP in Nov. Maybe I removed something and didn't realize it. What is the font that Windows uses for those Windows?

I'll check the display properties more and post back.

You could fall back to a system restore point....might help you discover just which program stuck ya!

    Sorry

I should have been clearer, when I said display drivers I meant for your vga card/adapter :) Not monitor/panel

Using the latest video display driver from nVidia as of today there was a Windows update on it. Driver is dated 12/10/01 for the GeForce2 MX 100/200. Font size set to normal in advanced display properties. It is not laid out as you described but I got the jist. I've been there before in previous windows versions. No change in the problem though. Every display setting I could find that involved fonts I changed to the "smallest size" and even tried making it big and changing bcak again. No change in the problem.
