What do I have to do to get NS 7.2 to open WP attachments ? As it is right now, NS doesn't recognize the wpd type file. I can save the file and then open it, but I would like to be able to click on it as an attachment and haave it open.

I think if you right click on the attachment with the shift key depressed, you get the option to open the file with whichever program you specify from a list of programs that are on your computer. If you have Wordperfect you can specify that, or Word will open it too. You will then have the option to check a box to ALWAYS open that type of file with the program you specified. Check that box and it should always open that type of file with the same program. This is to the best of my recollection. Try it, it might work.

I am using Wordperfect 11 and Netscape 7.2 and using the shift key doesnot give the alternatives you note. The only options I can get, regardless of the combinations of click shift, double-click, etc., are 1) open (which doesn't work), 2) save, and 3)save all. I have tried to add a helper, but I don't know what to put in for the mime description - but I would think I should be able to open wpd documents without a helper.

I would note, since there may be an interaction, that when I double-click on the wpd attachment, the Star Downloader program kicks in to do a download. In the Star program there is a listing of file types that it suppossedly tries to handle, but wpd is not among them.

Why don't you save the file to your hard drive, then go to the file in explorer, right click with the shift key down, and choose to open it always with WP. Then try it again in Netscape and see if that works. Maybe once you specify that *.wpd is to be opened with WP, Netscape will then do it by association.

Alas, to no avail. I have tried several things and it seems at times that Star Downloader has something to do with it, but I cannot get repeatability. I did finally get the box which asks for me to name which program I want to use to open the program, but it already had the complete and accurate path in it! I guess I give up for a while.!?

You sure spend a lot of time doing things which are obviously not made to be done. I don't have Word Perfect but I can open its files with Open Office, unless I am getting confused.
If I understand correctly you want to open the file directly by clicking Open, on the Attachment. I, personally, do not even consider doing such things, for security's sake. I want to download and scan each attachment, but I think I understand what you want. I will take a look at some .wpd files.
I don't know if my Word Perfect 8 is compatible to Win XP, but I have it.
