I have noticed a difference in these two implementations where I copy text from a web site and paste it into a new Wordpad document. In the 98SE version the copied text would retain, in most cases, the font type and size of the text on the web page. However, this is never the case in my XP Pro system.

Is there something I can do to make the XP version function like the 98SE version did?

scout321x--I guess it does not help you if I tell you that I do not experience the behavior you describe. When I paste something copied from the Web into Wordpad, it retains the font, size, etc. in the Wordpad window. If I then save as RichTextFormat (.rtf), the saved .rtf file retains those properties as well. But if I save as Text Document (.txt), then the formatting is lost.
Are you sure you are using Wordpad and not Notepad?

    Hey Jim,

Affirmative, I am using Wordpad and saving as an .rtf document.

And as an aside, I cannot change any defaults either. I can change the values in any one document but when I open Wordpad again the defaults revert back Arial, 10, Western.

scout321x--Regrets. I don't think I can offer anything more on the Format problem.
As far as changing the font, here is what Wordpad Help has to say.
"To change a font type, style, or size
Select the text that you want to change.
On the Format menu, click Font.
    Click the options you want.
    Notes
You can specify the font for new text by changing the font settings before you begin to type.
You can select all text at once by clicking Edit, and then clicking Select All. "

However, I do not think this changes the default. It may not be easy. Here is what Google offers.

    Look at the Davetaylor link.
FWIW--My default font in Wordpad is Courier New.

    Thanks, June!

Jim, I will definitely look at the subs, however, I would much rather solve the problem rather than circumvent it.

    Fwiw...

The problem appears to be with the clipboard function and/or the clipbook viewer (clipbrd.exe) and not Wordpad. I say this because 1) the conversion to a "default" font is occurring with the two Wordpad subs that I have tried and 2) I have been able to bring up clipbrd.exe>View and select another choice: "Locale" and then paste into Wordpad (or the tested subs) and the original format is retained.

When I bring up clipbrd.exe>View, the checked selection is always "Default Format ". I have yet to discover if there is a way to change this default setting to something other than "Default Format ".
