wordpad file

    Hi
    I just accidently renamed a file in wordpad and I have overwritten the old file, can I recover the old file

    Let's be clear on just exactly what you did. If you opened some file, then saved it under a new name, the old file will still be intact and so will the new file.

    If instead, you opened some file, then made changes, then saved it without changing the name, you will have lost the original version of that file.

    Lastly, if you opened some file, then saved it with a name that was already being used for another file, and ignored the warning that you would over-write the existing, then you have lost the overwritten file.

    There are still programs that may recover it in spite of what you did.

    Which way did you do it?

    I was saving a file and accidently clicked a different existing file and the new file was saved with the old name

    I see. Perhaps try some of the options in this earlier thread. frankly, I think it's gone forever since its overwritten rather than deleted.
