Hi, when you are typing something in MS Word and the PC crashes, you're offered a [recovered] version of the file. I chose not to use it and then it all crashed again and now I want it. Where would it be? I've tried searching by today's date for all files but can't see anything that looks like what I want.

I'm using Win XP and it's Word 95.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can save me from re-typing this thing.

    Jo

I just tested this on my machine using xpsp2 and office 2003

    C:\Documents and Settings\joehobart\Application Data\Microsoft\Word

contains a file named AutoRecovery save of TestDoc.asd. I was able to double click it, and it opened right up in word.

I have no idea what it looks like on such an old version of office, its most likely going to be ~23862812 or something awful like that.

Hi Jo, not sure about Word 95 but look in Tools>Options>File Locations tab and look for something like "AutoRecover files ". The path to the autorecover directory should be to the right.

You could also look in the path/directory you saved the doc file to, there may be a file of the same name with tilde "~' in front of it. That is a temporary file word makes while you are working on the document. You "may" be able to recover something from it.

    Thanks guys

Well, there isn't any "auto recovery" file to be found unfortunately. There was nothing set for "auto save" location but I've assigned a drive and folder now.
I very rarely use MS Word but for some reason chose to use it for this particular letter today. It would be good if I could purchase only Word without getting all the other Office stuff I don't want, then I could have an up to date version.

    Thanks again for your replies.
