I am using still using Word 97 in XP Pro and all has been fine (no flames
please). I am trying to copy the normal.dot file from my Admin acct to my
daughters limited user acct via Shared Documents. I was able to put a copy of my normal.dot into the Shared Documents folder.

Upon attempting to paste it over her existing, I get an Access Denied message. Even with Word being closed, I get Access Denied when I try to do anything with normal.dot. Cannot paste, copy or delete it. How can I successfully replace her normal.dot with another one? Thanks, Lar

Are you trying to paste the file from her account or are you in your account or the admin. account when trying to paste?

    Hi JohnB,

Ahhh, got your drift. I changed her limited acct to administrator and it worked! (That was so "duh! "). Normal.dot was replaced.

While in admin mode, I checked off the Options choice to activate the Spelling and Grammer checker. However, when I returned her acct to limited, the normal.dot change had stuck but the Spell Check was greyed out and non-functional. Any suggestions on that?

    Thanks.

Hi again, glad the normal.dot change worked out. As for the spell checker I don't have any idea why it is greyed out, but perhaps you could change her account back to admin., uncheck the spell checker, change back to limited and see if you can activate the spell checker from the limited account. I don't see any reason why the limited account should restrict the user from accessing the usual function in Word.

No spell check on admin or limited.

I remembered an old thread of mine regararding MS Photo Editor and registry permissions. So, I went into the registry, found Microsoft/ Office under HKLM and turned all persmissions to Full Control. I also turned on all permissions to Full Control under Microsft Shared Tools/ MSWord. Still no spell check.
