I have just installed M$ Word 97 on my Windows XP Home O.S. with SP-2 and now my spell check option in Outlook Express will not function?

Is there any work-around for this?

    Thanks So Much

johnberb--Did you have a spell checker in OE before installing Word97?
Any particular reason for installing Word97 instead of Word2003?
This application introduces a spell checker into OE for PC's having no Word app installed.

    Might work for you.

Thanks to both of you for the speedy replies.

The error message I receive from within OE simpley sayes "An error occrued while the spelling was being checked "

Previously I was using my registred version of Word 2002 and the spell checkiing within OE was working fine but I found the program very "heavy" with options expically in the save file operation as it automatically wanted to save them as Word Pad format?

This is the reason I went back to my old Word 97 to get away from all the "bells & whistles" in the 2002 buiild. I did a compete uninstall followed by a system defrag started the machine and then installed Word 97.

I have also checked into the M$ KB and checked out my registery in the SharedToolsFileDir the statement of C:\Program Files\Comon Files\Microsoft Shared\and in the value box it was already correctly entered.

Perhaps the problem is that Word 97 is just going back too far to be compatible with XP?

    Thanks so much

The post alboy refers to contains an error - the required .dll is Csapi3t1.dll - the 1 is missing from that post.

See this MS Knowledge Base article - applies to OE 6 as well.

For your convenience the file is attached - change the extension from .txt to .dll

Spell Check using Word 97 with OE in Windows XP

Thanks so much for the help.

The info that Pete sent over including the .dll file I needed fixed the problem with the spell check not working in OE with Word 97

    Regards
