I Have a problem. Running Word 2007 on a well equipped PC Vista 32 bit operating system. The problem is that if I load any graphic in to a document the application shows 100% processor usage and becomes very slow. So slow as to make it unusable. I think but I am not sure that this problem has recently occurred. I have 3 gb of memory and a dual core 2.66 processor. Any help would be appreciated.

    Graphic size

Between 20 ish Kb and a couple of Mb I think . Could carry out some trials to find out effect on speed of different file sizes but I would like to use Word as a tool and not as a way of life. Thanks for feedback so far any further ideas I am more than willing to try. Sudden thoughts probable irrelevant but I have recently changed the graphics card. Don't seem to effect any other application including PSP so its almost surely a "red herring "

Try running Word with the /a switch and see if it makes any difference .....

    Start (Orb) > Run > winword.exe /a > Enter

This will stop any add-ins from being loaded - if the problem is resolved it is an add-in that is causing the problem.

You could also unregister and re-register Word. You may need to change the path to reflect the true location of Winword.exe This will re-write some registry values that may have been corrupted.

START > Run and type the following commands one by one.

    "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\winword.exe" /unregserver

    "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\winword.exe" /regserver

If the Run command is not showing on the Start Menu right click on the Orb > Properties > Customise and check Run command.

    Further Tests

    Pete,
I have tried the registry reset and the lack of add ons. Unfortunately they didn't work. However I have narrowed down the problem to one particular graphic and will when I get a bit of time further investigate. I used the right click properties and edit picture procedure, enabled compression and it seems as if the application now runs at expected speed with no reduction in the quality of print preview of the graphic. I will mark this as resolved and thanks a bunch for your help I have learned a couple of tricks from you that should be useful in the future. I will let you know via this forum if I learn any more about this particular graphic.
