I've asked about this before, and had the problem resolved, but the the resolution turned out to be an illusion. The problem is that my copy of Word 2007 runs extremely slowly under Win7 (at home) but not under Win XP (at work). Under Win7, the specific problem is that when I right-click on an object in a document and choose "format object" (for example) the dialogue box comes up slowly (with "not responding" appearing for a few moments in Word's title bar) and then, after I do the formatting and click "OK," Word responds with "not responding" in the dialogue box's title bar for another few moments. Then, after a bit, it responds, finally doing what I want it to do. The same happens with other dialogue boxes to do other things (change font, etc.) Nothing like this happens under WinXP.

The solution that isn't really a solution is to restart Win7. This only works for a few minutes or an hour before I have to do it again.

Do I have to re-install Word?

That's an option. Or have a look under Resources in Word Options and run Microsoft Office Diagnostics.

I'm running Office 2007 (never felt the urge to upgrade to 2010 yet) on my Windows 7 (x64) PC & laptop without problems.

I've solved the problem!! There's a program that runs on my Win7 machine that I don't have on my Windows XP PC. It's "iYogi," a utilities suite, where some of it stays in memory all the time. I didn't allow it to start when I restarted my computer and MS Office started working like a charm.
