Why would you want to do this?
Word 2007 can easily read the older files and save them as 2003 if needed.

But yes, you can have two different versions of Office installed - but Miscrosoft doesn't not recommend you do it cause it can cause problems. Can't use both version of Outlook.

If I uninstall windows 2003 and then load office 2007 Pro (with word 2007) I'll still be able to find the messages stored in 2003? Is this correct?

    Yes.
After putting your common sense cap on, you'll realize that MS would go out of business if Word 2007 couldn't read 2003 files....

NOTE: Word 2007 files can NOT be read on a pc with Word 2003 unless:

    a) You set Word 2007 to automatically save the files as the older version or

    b) You install:
Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 file formats

Food for thought: Office 2007 is a LOT different and takes a LOT to get used to. Have you done your homework and are there things in Office 2007 that you really "need? "
