I use Word only occasionally; but, when I do, I want it to save in whatever format the document was opened in originally--without prompting me.

To be clear, if the originally-opened document was in Word 6.0 format, when I click Save, I want it to save in Word 6.0 without warning me that I may be making a mistake. The same would also apply to any other format, whether it be Word Perfect 5 format, WordPad format, Windows Write, etc.

Is there a setting for this in Word 2000?

    Alex,

I believe all you have to do is to save by
clicking on the 'floppy' icon. I tried this
on a .txt file and it did not ask what
format to save as. I don't have any of the
other formats you asked about, except some
.doc files, and I usually save by clicking
    on the icon also.

    Hope this helps...
