Here's the deal... Got a gift the other day; Works Suite 2002 in the original carton. Can I load it right over '97? Will I lose any data? Why do I even want it? (I mean; does it have more "bells & whistles "?) Curious...

Does that give you Word 2002? Don't use Works as it is (or used to be) impossible to save files outside it and to open them with any other programme.

If you do mean Word, IMHO 2002 is much more user friendly and is more configurable than 1997

    Word 02' cont'd...

Sorry... yes, that gives me Word 2002. But can I load it "on top" of '97? That is to say, will I keep all my '97 data intact or do I have to do anything to it (97) first?

Your data will be in My Documents or whichever folders you have chosen ie they are outside Word itself so no problems there.

Works 2002 will load Word 2002 directly over Word 97. No data will be lost. Many improvements over the last 5 years make this a worthwhile effort.

Don't know if the installation will wipe out Word 97. If it doesn't, you can do so manually and save some h/d space.
