Just built my first pc. At my first power up, the fans start and the power LEDs come on and then it all shuts back down. I checked all the plugs and connections, it all seems good to me, but I am new at this. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

Sounds like you have a grounded motherboard! Power on too much or often you will damage the board and power supply.

Better go to radio shack and get some plastic motherboard mounting screws.

Check for any metal to metal contact on and under the MB.

First, verify that your video card and memory are properly seated. Then if you still get the same behavior, clear your cmos and then boot up and go right to your bios setup. Set everything to failsafe or setup defaults, exit the bios and see if you can boot to a floppy. Post back your success/failure.

    ;)

this might be a strange question, but are you using a GA-7XX motherboard and an AMD chip?

Sounds to me like a failure to recognise CPU problem if it isn't getting to POST (Power On Self Test). Change the CPU clock on the motherboard from 100 -> 133 or vice versa and see how you go
