Won't boot past xp startup screen (splash screen)

    Hello everyone,
    I have a problem and i can't find anything relating to my problem. So when i start my PC, it boots normally and goes to the windows xp startup/splash screen and then it just reboots. It will do the same is safemode.
    Please someone help!

    MBusse99 - Welcome to the Board :)

    Boot from your XP install CD (full/upgrade version - not a Recovery CD) and press R when prompted to enter the Recovery Console ....

    When at the command prompt type:

    chkdsk /r

    This will check and fix any errors. Reboot after its done. If the problem still exists, run the Recovery Console again and this time type:

    fixmbr

    If it says you have a non-standard or bad master boot record then select yes and run it and then reboot.

    I have had the same problem today, found this on google, and decided to give it a go.

    It started fine, it said
    "CHKDSK is checking the volume... "
    then
    "CHKDSK is performing additional checking or recovery... "
    then the same again:
    "CHKDSK is performing additional checking or recovery... "
    then the same again:
    "CHKDSK is performing additional checking or recovery... "
    then
    55% completed,
    it reached about 80% i think it was 83% the last time i checked, then it went straight back to 50% and continued..

    Why?

    It has stages; six I believe.
    There is a progress report for each stage.
