After constructing a "state of the art" PC based home theater with gigabit Ethernet connecting a Media Storage Server to a HTPC I thought great, now I can take advantage of Windows Media Center to watch 1080P resolution movies.
I bought some movies from http://www.cinemanow.com and downloaded to the media server.
Ok great so I go into the living room and browse to the server shared folder and double click on one of the movies I just downloaded. SURPRISE! I don't have a license to play the video on any machine other than the one I downloaded too!
I E Mailed Cinema now and this was there reply:

    What a crock!
This negates the whole purpose of having a networked home for distributed media!

I googled the subject to death and found no answers on how to share the licenses in a home network.

    Any input would be appreciated.

    Hello Scott,

Have you tried going to Network Neighbourhood from the media machine, finding the file on the server's HD and opening it? EDIT: sorry, that's what you did.

Another possibility I have just thought of, is using one of the new digital video cards to stream it across to the media machine (extra cost I suppose :( ).

If I could not come up with a reasonable solution I would not hesitate to ask for my money back because it "does not do what I want it to do ".

If they have added some sort of program to your system that "spys on" or regulates your system I might threaten legal action (Sony are getting their backsides tanned about that).

    Hope you have some luck.
    Matt

Ya know it just roasts my backside the MS does all these ad campaighns about sharing your media library across your home and now come to find out you cant.
I can download the movies direct to the machine I want to play them on but that's beside the point.

Hello? for 19.95 I think I bought the rights to my video!

I sure wish I would have known this before I built 2 machines and a gigabit network.
