when downloading something that has a wmv extension, is it ideal to convert it to something like mpeg or avi ... or shall i keep it as wmv.

If yes, which software utility would recommend ?

    Thanks!

By default *.wmv files are associated with Windows Media Player (on my XP m/c). If you are happy with that app, use it!

    thx for the info.

Actually, I read somewhere that *.wmv files are compressed files. In fact even their filesize is small, compared to other extensions such as *.avi.

So in your opinion shall i keep them as *.wmv files or would you recommend that i shall convert them to any other format ?

    Thanks

*.wmv files are indeed compressed - as are *.avi. *.mpeg and so on.

What you do with them is entirely your choice, but you might like to experiment and convert a copy of a *.wmv file to your preferred format and run each and compare the output quality and then decide how to handle them in the future.

I can't give you an opinion as I don't use multimedia files at all.

    thx for your reply.

Actually, I need to read some guides about all these types of multimedia file extensions, because they confuse me a bit :)

    Thanks
