Lately everytime I click on a link in file explorer for a mp3 or a video file the music or video plays as I can hear the sound but media player is not launched, if I then open media player the file running is displayed.

I have checked all of the usual possible causes, "open with application" and checked that all files are designated to open with media player, one thing I could not find in media player properties is the ability to choose what type of files are opened? Thinking this may be the proplem.

Also I cannot get DVD's to autoplay in windows media 11

Make sure you have checked "always use the selected program to open this kind of file ".
