I have just transferred my Holiday video from my Sony DCR-SR72E (hard drive camcorder), using Sony PMB launcher to my PC (XP). Each clip has a WMP file and a "data" file.
When I double click on the WMP file Media player opens but I get a "Windows M P encountered a problem while playing the file." If I close that window I then get a Runtime error R6025 pure virtual call. The file will play on my "PowerDVD" programme perfectly well.
How can I get the dreaded Windows media player to play the files reliably.
I have downloaded a K-Lite Codec pack to no avail.
Can I remove WMP 11 (11.0.5721.5280) and re-install or revert back or what ?
If someone can come up with an easy fix I would be delighted.
    Thanks in advance
    David D

Open K-lite's Media Player Classic & drag & drop the file there. If it plays ok, you can set Media Player Classic as the default player for WMP files.

Thanks, I tried to play the files on Classic but got the same run-time error. I loaded the orig files onto a memory stick and plugged it into my wifes Vista laptop and it played first time. I feel that it is my WMP 11 that is at fault. I would like to remove it and reinstall, or go back to 10, but I don't really know if this is the way to go, or how to come to that. Any ideas out there
    (I spent Devali in Gurgaon)
    Thanks

Back in cold UK after 3 weeks around Rajasthan. The usual places.
I have just tried to remove WMP11 via control panel, add remove progs and it wouldn't allow as it said some bits had allready been removed, so I downloaded WMP 11 afresh. I also updated PMB from Sony. I would just like to cure the runtime error so I can use WMP to play the MPEG video files.
I have one set of video files that actually play on WMP 11 whereas the other 3 sets don't ? (all from the same camcorder and they all look the same in detail). I actually posted this question a year or two ago I have just realised, to no effect. (Use the search function)(http://www.windowsbbs.com/other-pc-software/67485-windows-media-player-r6025-error.html)
Should I remove WMP 11 or try something else like roll back to 10

    Thanks Peter.
My Power DVD plays the videos OK. This sort of thing just irritates me. I seem to think that if I have a programme supplied by a huge corporation and used by millions, I should be able to use it. Anyway when it works I like WMP so I am still looking for a solution, even just to stop the problem niggling at me,
    Regards
