    Recently installed WMP 7. This is what I've been playing around with (Thanks to goddez1). The 'RecentFileList' grows to 15 entries (mostly NASCAR multimedia) before they start dropping off. Quite irritating. However, I can't find the 'AddtoMRU' key to stop this from happening. It is not in HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/MediaPlayer/Preferences as indicated. Not sure where else to look. Thanks for any suggestions in this matter.

    Hi shotsi,

    I just passed this nfo on. I knew the method for clearing the MRU list worked. I just assumed the method for stopping the addtion to the list would also hold true.

    I have been trying to block the addition to this list, using the registry tweak and adding the "AddToMRU" value but have thus far been unsuccessful in doing so. I'll keep plucking away at it.

    Perhaps it's version specific, either OS or wmp.

    goddez1, thanks for replying. I'm also continuing to play with it in the hopes of at least lowering the number of entries. Fifteen seems a little high...my previous version (6.4) started dropping off at eight, I think. Opening the 'File' menu drops it to the bottom of the screen. Not a big deal...just one of those irritating things that I can't seem to let go of.:confused:

    Thanks for your time.

    A work around would be a reg patch that when double clicked on would clear the list.

    Copy and paste bolded text into notepad and save to desktop as wmpMRU.reg:
    ==================

    REGEDIT4

    [-HKEY_USERS\.Default\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\Player\RecentFileList]

    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\Player\RecentFileList]

    ==================
    Darn it!!!! WHY IS THE TEXT WRAPPING????^
    Okay.....modify instructions. Wait.... give me a minute ot two!!!!

    :mad: All righty then......
    Here's the link with the whole shabang. Just copyNpaste the Burgandy color text into notepad. If you have any problem with this give me a shout. It works, I tested it.

    NOTE*You must make sure mediaplayer is not opened when using this or the list will not change as wmp will enter it right back into registry.

    Now when ever you wish to clear the list double click on the reg file on desktop.

    The only draw back is you lose the convenience of clicking on a instant "open" link and will have to use a playlist or browse to folder/file to open it.
