I have XP PRo SP3 plus all critical ipdates.

"What's Running" tells me that WMI is not working, giving the message "WMIEnum.Create adding enum failed.
    WBEM_E_INVALID_CLASS:Win32_PerfFormattedData_PerfProc_Process ".

It also gives a URL to a help page which suggests using Microsoft's WMI diagnostic utility.

I have done so, but I don't understand what the utility's report means. It is attached.

Can anyone suggest what I need to do next?

    Hi,

I haven't come across your problem. From your information I found this:

I see the word "desktop ". Try moving all unnecessary files off the desktop. You can put files in My Documents and leave a shortcut on the desktop to get to them quickly.

Look at Themes (see Help and Support if you cannot find it). Do you have a third-party theme? They could try to hijack your system.

Also...using third-party screensavers can compromise your security. Or, they can be low quality.

Your Desktop is much more than a folder in Windows Explorer, it is a "sub-program "

    Thank you mattman.

I normally have many shortcuts on the desktop, but I have now placed most of them in another folder within the Desktop sub-program's "folder ".

"What's Running" continues to tell me that WMI isn't working.

I have no third-party themes installed. I use Windows' Classic plain blue.

The only third-party screensavers installed are a few which I made, using Axialis Professional Screen Saver Producer.
They have been on the machine for many months. I don't use them.

    I stick to Windows' Starfield.

Before I asked the question here, I ran the system file check. There was a little write activity from the c.d. tray' indicator, but it made no difference that I have noticed.

If the computer is running OK and not showing any strange behaviour I would not be overly concerned about this. Sometimes digging too deep gives you sleepless nights :)

    Thank you Pete.

Yes, I know what you mean. But as far as this particular problem is (was) concerned I can now sleep well.

Since I don't understand WMI anyway (an internet search coughed up lots of information which I simply don't understand) I uninstalled "What's Running" so I am no longer bothered by its protests.

Similarly, soon after its publication I bought Stephen Hawking's "A Brief History of Time ". I didn't understand that either, so I uninstalled it too (I gave it away)!
