WME won't open?

I just returned to school from fall break and find that my video won't work. Quicktime does, Winamp will play the sound from video files but the video box doesn't pop up, and when I try to open a file with Windows Media Player, nothing happens except for a little beep that indicates there is some error. If I open WME directly, it thinks a little bit with the hourglass then does nothing. Can someone please help me fix this problem? Thanks.

What operating system and what version of Media Player?

In MP click tools>options>format or file types tab (depending on version), then select all formats.
