So that i can install Sky by Broadband, it states it won't install unless Windows Media 10 is installed on the PC.

I currently have WM11 beta which has been running just fine, and because of the above, it will not let me install a previous version. I tried removing everything from the registry regarding WM but still picks up on WM11 from somewhere.

Any thoughts of where it is picking up the WM11 from and what i can do to get WM10 back on my PC?

Zykan--This is how you uninstall WMP11 or rollback to a previous version.

Hoever, I do not know if the action you have already taken will allow these procedures to work.
If not, perhaps some others can help.
Or if you installed WMP11 not too long ago, perhaps a System Restore?

I do a backup every 2 days but i cannot remember when i installed WM11 and would also lose a lot of saved stuff since then.

I followed the MS route that you supplied....uninstalling 2/3 items (rollback took place), i removed everything from registry relating to WM after no luck and still no luck. It appears that when i try to install WM10 that it is picking up that WM11 is on the system somewhere and will therefore go no further.

Any ideas on where else on the PC it could be checking against?

    Zykan--Some thoughts.
Reinstall WMP11 and then go through the uninstall procedure in the MS link above. Reinstall WMP10.
If that does not help, remember that System Restore does not touch (remove) personal data files--only Windows system files. So you might not lose as much as you think. Windows Update will automatically find which Updates are missing, so they should be easy to reinstall, though it could take a few minutes. You will, however, need to reinstall any programs you have installed after the System Restore date, as well as definition updates to antivirus, spyware detectors, etc. But the latest version is usually cumulative, so you only have to reinstall the latest. (If you make a list of programs in Program Files before you run System Restore, that will help remind you what you now have installed.)
But, of course, whether to run System Restore is up to you.
I presume it is the WMP10 download that is failing
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/mp10/default.aspx

There is a list in the Registry of installed programs
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall
(Before making any changes to the Registry, back it up.)
Look near the bottom of the list for mplayer2 and Windows Media Player. If you find them, delete the key. If you have the time, you can also click on all those long alphanumeric entries to see if any of them deal with WMP. If so, delete them.
Deleting the entries for WMP from there should "fool" Windows into thinking the programs are not installed, but you say you have cleared Registry of all references to WMP10 or 11. So I do not know if the entries in this Registry key will still be present.

P.S. If you still have the WMP11 setup file on your PC (possibly called mp11setup.exe), right click|Properties and look at the "Modified" date. That often would be the date you downloaded it. Then you might learn what date System Restore to use. Or you could use it to try to reinstall WMP11, as suggested at the beginning.
