Does it take a while for anyone else's laptop to load the wlan utility on a fresh install of windows on a laptop? As soon as I install windows and all the drivers (including the newest wlan drivers and wlan utility) it takes around a minute for the wireless utility to start and then detect a wireless router. Everything elses loads fast like it should. I just sit there waiting for my laptop to pick up the signal. I noticed when I look at the startup list that it is not an application. It is a service. So does anyone know how to force the wlan utility service as a higher priority and make it start when everything else starts?

Man, it really depends on what wireless NIC you're using. Regardless of whether or not you allow XP to manage your wireless connection, it can take a long time for that pretty little icon you are looking for to come up in the tray. And it's not only wireless adapters....some of the integrated NICs that come on the mb today seem to come up last. "Services" are the second thing in XPs boot order...but it's not the wlan service that is taking forever to load, but rather the little GUI thingy you see in the task bar.

Just for kicks and giggles, what laptop model and NIC model are you running.
