I just bought a new wireless router and connected my desktop to it with a wire. On my desktop, I am running Windows ME. The internet is not working. I went to start, run, cmd, and at the command prompt, I pinged the routers IP and it came back fine.

How do I change the settings in ME to recognize the internet connection? As a result, I crashed my laptop already trying to get it to share internet connections and don't want to make another fatal mistake. I'm currently typing from a 3rd laptop.

Can a mod please move this to the Windows ME forum as I think its more related to that than networking.

    Thanks

    sounds strange to me
router is independent of all of this
can you get into the router control panel ?
    It can be iffy
internet explorer > tools > options > lan settings
    make sure all are unchecked
    if not clear cache
    if not reboot
    if not try firefox
if you are having trouble getting into the control panel it will pop up out of the blue at some point
the router should be independent of all , especially if you are connected by a ethernet cable
If you are having trouble - reset the router ( button on back )
If you have dsl - (phone company broadband) BE CAREFULL
You need your isp log on info
Otherwise you will be locked out of your connection
If you do not have this info Do Not Reset the Router
If you have this info / and or have cable company broadband
reset the router and start from scratch
    This is a useful site

    http://portforward.com/

a very useful home networking utility

    network magic
    www.networkmagic.com
even the free version will be of use
You seem to be a nube who is blaming everyone but themselves
windows me is not the problem
If you were having trouble setting up a network adapter with me that might be another story but not the router
