    Alright, here is my situation.

A couple days ago I was going on a trip. Everything worked fine before then.

DSL Modem > Linksys BEFSX41 Wired > 2 Computers & 1 Netgear WGT624 Wireless Router, > which is for my wireless Laptop. A Ethernet Cable is connected from a LAN port on the Linksys to the WAN port on the Netgear. (is that correct?)

All my computers are set to Static.

    Linksys: 192.168.1.1 (Gateway)
    Desktop One: 192.168.1.2
    Desktop Two: 192.168.1.3
    Netgear Router: 192.168.1.4
    Laptop: 192.168.1.5

Everything as such worked like a charm--even Internet and File/Printer Sharing.

Then on the day I leave on a trip, I do something stupid. Since I was taking my laptop to a friend's house for which I new had a Dynamically Assigned Network, I logged into my Netgear Router and set it to DHCP!!!! I never did end up getting it to work at my friends home. Lo and behold, I come home, and nothing communicates. I finally was able to log into the Netgear through the laptop, but the Netgear Wireless will not communicate with the Linksys Wired.

Under Basic Settings, I have as follows:

Does Your Internet connection Require A Login

    No

    Internet IP Address

Get Dynamically from ISP (just like Linksys, but if I turn off Dynamic, it FORCES me to type in a Static IP Address. But I'm clueless as to what ranges to put in. No matter which ranges I put in, it still doesn't work.

    Domain Name Server (DNS) Address

    Get Automaticaly From ISP

    LAN IP Setup

    Lan TCP/IP Setup

    IP Address: 192.168.1.4
    Subnet: 255.255.255.0
    RIP Direction: None
    RIP Version: Disabled

    Use Router as DHCP Server

    Disabled

    BUT, I have:

    Starting IP Address: 192.168.1.5
    Ending IP Address: 192.168.1.254

I haven't really monkeyed around with anything else to mess it up. No Firewalls enabled to prevent Routers from talking either. Everything was working fine until that one day I decided to monkey with it. WHAT DID I DO WRONG??? :(

    Thanks. :)

To connect two network devices (hubs, switches, or routers) together you need a cross over. The simplest way to do this is to use a cross over cable. However, traditionally most network devices have a single port that can be set as either straight through or cross over. You can set the cross over at the port and then use a normal straight through cable to connect the devices.

That means it can make a difference which port you use to connect the two routers together.

My guess is you've plugged the wireless router back in via a different port, or have changed the small switch next to the port so that the port is in the wrong configuration.

The switchable port is usually port 1, and the change is made via a small button next to the port. When it is right the LED for that connection lights up!

However, many modern devices auto-sense the connection and will go to cross over automatically. If this is the case with your routers, my diagnosis is wrong. If so post back and we can suggest something else to try.

Thanks ReggieB, but before I proceed with your advice, I want to make sure I understand what you're saying.

Are you saying to unplug the Cable from the LAN port on the Wireless router, and plug it into Port 1?

BTW, I notice there is a little picture on my wireless netgear that has the letter "i ", meaning "Internet ". The light for it isn't lit up like the Internet light on my Linksys main router.

I cannot believe this...I CANNOT BELIEVE THIS!!!!!!!!

I have a home-based business that has come to a HALT for the last 2 days ALL BECAUSE I didn't have the cable plugged into PORT 1!!!!!!

I switched the port, and viola!!!!!! The internet works!!! If I could, I'd give you a big hug Reggie! Thanks a ton!!!
