Looking to add on to a company's hard-wired office network to include a few boats approx. 300ft from the office.
Looking at D-Links products, I've come up with an idea and want to know everyone's opinions on weather or not it'll work or if there's other ideas.

Plugging into the company's router will be the D-Link DI-614+
    http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=20

Plugging into the boats computer will be the D-Link DWL-AB520
    http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=31

Midway would be either the D-Link DWL-800AP+
    http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=18

    -or- D-Link DWL-900AP+
    http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=22

    Question so far...WILL THIS WORK?!

Next question: Can either of the midway points be replaced with D-Link ANT24-800
    http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=52

The reason I would have to go with the PCI adapter with the external ant. is that the computer is mounted below deck and I'm sure the signal might have trouble reaching it. I figured with the ability to mount the ant. where-ever would help.

Any suggestions/ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Certainly looks to me as if it should work and with the D-Link ANT24-800 rather than needing either of the wireless access points as range extenders.

Probably. And I say that because the hull type and PCI antenna placement will make a huge difference.

#1 - Steel hull, PC below the water line (and thus below the surface of the pier), and PCI adapter antenna near the PC and it might not.

#2 - Wood hull, PCI adapter antena above the water line, line-of-sight to the D-Link ANT24-800 and it certainly would.

The closer your conditions are to #1 the more likely you would need the repeater.

    Hey, Newt...thanks for the reply.

    More info for you...
Yes, they are steel tugs, but the computers are mounted in the wheelhouse, 25-35 feet above the water line and the ant. will probably be mounted in the forward most window well within line of site of the ANT24-800. (The computer itself though is mounted inside a compartment, that's why I want the ability to run the cable out of the compartment to the window.

Still think I'm OK with this set up?

Joe - as you describe it, I'd say you are good to go. You can probably glue the antena base to the overhead to have it out of the way and let them network to their hearts content.

Good deal, Newt! I'm assuming the wireless router will plug (if nothing is already plugged into it) will plug into the WAN port of the hardwired router. Plugs into any port if there is something already in the WAN port?
I'll get back to you when I discover that information.
I know there's something about having to use straight-through cable if WAN and crossover cable if regular port? Is that right?

Crossover for sure if going to a normal port. WAN port - depends on how it is set up. I'd try a normal patch cable first and if that fails, go with crossover.

And no advantage or disadvantage to using the WAN port.
