    Hi,

I've been trying to troubleshoot a wireless problem on my housemates laptop. She accidentally installed norton antivirus twice earlier in the year, and since removing one version has not been able to connect to our house Wifi.

Her computer is a HP Pavilion Laptop running vista. The wireless card is a broadcom 4321AG 802.11a/b/g, working properly and all drivers are up to date. I have disabled Norton and Windows defender. The computer connects to our wireless connection, but "Local only" access. I have reset the router and changed the channel with no success. I ran Command prompt ipconfig /all and the IP address is incorrect (169.254.151.55) and no default gateway listed.

I ran ipconfig /release and /renew and got the following response:
"unable to contact DHCP server. Request has timed out. "

DCHP is running, I stopped and started it under administrative tools. TCP/IP settings are set to automatic. I did a Netsh dump, no joy.

Am all out of ideas! Can anyone help?

Uninstall the remaining Norton using the Symantec Norton Removal Tool. Click on the orange text that most closely resembles the products that have been installed.

Run this command from an elevated command prompt netsh interface ip show config >c:\ipconfig.txt

And copy ipconfig.txt in your next response.

Next run ping 127.0.0.1 >c:\ping.txt (also copy that info here).
