I have an old PC running Windows 98 that I want to use in my garage on the Internet by picking up the Wireless Router I use on my Win XP PC.

The machine only has a 133 Mhz processor and 64 Mb of RAM . . . . but I installed a USB 2.0 PCI card a while ago that works fine.

I have a D-Link USB wireless dongle . . . . I installed the Driver Software OK . . . and then plugged in the unit into the USB card

The software from D-Link is NOT supposed to be compatible with Win 98 . . . but amazingly it works, and I have Internet access !

However . . . I can see no way of selecting MY Wireless Network !

Normally (on XP) you get a window displaying ALL wireless signals it's receiving, and you select the one you want (and enter the code if it's a secure one). Alternatively you can click on the D-Link icon to open THEIR window to select it, but nothing happens when you click the icon on the Win 98 machine.

I guess the module has somehow chosen to work by picking up someone else's UN-SECURE local wireless router? But if that is turned off or becomes secure then I guess I won't be able to get any web access.

Is there any way of displaying the Wireless Routers my unit is receiving on the Win98 PC? And then select MY router and enter my secure password.

    Hope somebody can help

Windows 98 does not have any Microsoft wifi connection software like later Windows operating systems, you will have to use the dlink connection software that came with your adapter.
