Just been given a desk top PC which uses Win 98. I haven't got the PC up and running yet, but wondered if it was possible to connect to the Internet using a USB Wireless adapter and a Wireless Router. I have a cable modem supplied.

    no trouble
just go to the website of the wireless network adapter
    Look for support or downloads
You may have to specify the version of the device
The same model may have changed over time so there are different versions of the drivers
There should be instructions with photos to identify your version
You may need a windows 98 se install disk to completly install the network adapter
XP has its own wireless utility ( actually a scaled down vanilla product)
Anything before XP you will have to install the utlity from the wi fi network adapter - it will come with driver setup usually
    One word of caution
The procedure generally with 98 to install usb devices is different than with xp
Do not attach the usb device
    Install the software
    Reboot
After system is up plug in usb device and go from there
One of the good things of xp is much better usb install ease
If you have trouble installing the usb device in 98 then try all alternate means of install
Sometimes you have to ignore the manual entirely

Thanks for your most helpful advice

Hi Visionof, thanks for your very welcome advice. Got myself a more uptodate PC and a new wireless flash card. Works a treat, and it's got XP Pro.
