I am using Linksys E2500 N600 router. The connection is very weak however when I use my laptop in same room the signal on laptop is excellent.

I have the Linksys Wireless-N USB adapter N600 plugged into the desktop.

What do I need to increase the connection speed?

To try and get better signal, insert a USB extension cable between your Desktop and WiFi USB adapter so that you can move the WiFi adapter up and away from the Desktop, (and any other potential RF interference).

Please define "connection is very weak ".
    How do you determine that?

The wifi modem is too far away from desktop to connect directly.

the weak signal has been determined by the signal strength on task bar showing only 1 bar highlighted.

I feel capable with most installs of software and devices however some reviews say it is difficult to install. I am running windows 7 on the desktop.

would you recommend possibly updating the modem?
