    Hi,

Could someone please tell me the main differences i.e. pros and cons whether to choose a pci wireless adapter or a usb one?

    Thank you.

PCI - a) Have to open the case to install. b) Can't easily be used with other computers

USB - a) Easy to install & share b) Easy to loose too !

PCI adapters usually have a scrued on antenna which can be replaced or upgraded to higher gain. (scrued is misspelled intentionally to bypass this forum's prohibited words setting)

Personally I have tried both. I had some bad experience with a PCI wireless adapter card and the antenna connector getting stripped, etc. Replaced the card and antenna but the setup was quite a chore. I later went to a USB adapter which came with a cute little extension cable and stand (goes near the desktop PC). The USB unit installed and set-up much easier. BUT, I have heard that USB devices use more resources than PCI boards. FWIW. ...Greg.

They (and all USB devices) do use more processor resources but with the speed of computers nowadays it's unlikely you'd notice the difference. In my opinion the best reason for using PCI is superior signal (due to the antenna) as pointed out by others.

With my network I use both and can say the PCI's have a greater range than the USB's
