Help! After loading WinXP yesterday on my Toshiba laptop (3000-S353), I had everything running ok - at least as far as the OS is concerned. But then I tried installing some different video card drivers and the system locked up, so I had to shut it down. Now it won't start back up and go into Windows... once I turn it on, all I get is a black screen. I've tried everything, holding down the key while starting back up, F8, etc. I hadn't made a boot disk for it yet since XP doesn't run on DOS anyway... would that help me in this situation if I had? So what does a WinXP user do in a situation like this? I'm real frustrated because I was hoping to bring this laptop with me on an important trip this week. Please help me, any advice would be much appreciated!

Is that all you get, from the very beginning, is a black screen, or does the blank only appear after POST and after XP attempts to start?

If you get no video whatsoever, the incorrect driver may have fried the video card.

It's black all the way... nothing else I'm afraid.

You gotta be kidding me... I never heard of the wrong driver frying a video card. That'll really **** if it's true. We Toshiba owners are trying thois all the time since Toshiba does absoulutely nothing to upgrade their drivers...

    NEVER buy a Toshiba!

That doesn't sound good, Norseman. If it is black all the way, then XP hasn't started and the problem is in hardware. Sorry.

    vga

I don't it's cooked either. You said after xp was installed things worked until you tried installing new drivers for the card rite?
Reboot & press f8 on the posting until you get the boot menu. Now select start in vga mode [enter] this brings you to vanila 16 colors & winxp will say "do you want the video adjusted for best performance?" select YES:)
