    Another minor matter.
As mentioned in an earlier post, I just upgraded WinXP Home to WinXP Pro. I have Google Toolbar and Norton AV installed.
When I right click on the IE Toolbar and check Google, I get a Norton AV link in the Toolbar. When I check Norton Antivirus, I get the Google Toolbar. At least I figured the scramble out so I have things looking like I want (no to NAV, yes to Google). But the "right click on Toolbar" check marks are still reversed.
Has anyone seen this and have any ideas how to fix it? Thanks.

Have you thought of uninstalling and reinstalling the Google toolbar? Maybe try the new beta version (seems to work OK)?

PeteC--Thanks for the tip about the new Google Toolbar beta. Working on the principle that if it works don't fix it, I think I will just live with the anomaly for the moment. Maybe when the Google Toolbar goes gold.

Been there done that. It is a known common nuisance. There's a problem in Internet Explorer which can cause it swap the names of toolbars (e.g. Yahoo, Norton and Google's, etc). You can fix it by deleting the ITBarLayout value on the right hand side, of the following three registry keys and restarting IE: Grabbed the first link I came across that explained it. http://www.onfolio.com/support/kb/okb107.cfm

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar\Explorer\ITBarlayout

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar\ShellBrowser\ITBarlayout

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar\WebBrowser\ITBarlayout

Specifically the webbrowser hkey/value. They will be rebuilt. You may have click/check/turn-on the view of the toolbars again.

As always is a good practice, you may wish to export these keys before the deletion. Just in case the expected-unexpected happens.

As a side note, I've got the google beta and I love the spellchecker. Can't say I have much use for many of the other functions they've added. Verdict is still out as I've only had it a couple of days but the spellchecker is a treat.

    Hi Pete,
Thanks for the information. I already use iespell and have been for quite some time or at least most of the time... :) Googles spell check works much like Msword in that all instances of suspected misspelled words are highlighted/written in red. With a click a list of suggestions is shown. Another click corrects it/them. It's very fast also. Iespell does the job but is a bit slower and does so in a more cumbersome manner. The difference is kind of hard to explain but is much like "iespell" being the old reliable station wagon while Googles is the Porche. Perhaps someone else can do a better job of expressing the difference. Since I love my Google anyway and have used the toolbar almost since it was available, I just couldn't resist this newer one even though it is a beta.

One problem with the Google Spell checker is that it is multilingual in that it accepts both the UK and US English spellings, whereas ieSpell can be set up for UK, US, or Canadian English.

Words like honor and honour, color and colour are all seen as OK, but this side of the pond we like the 'u' :)

goddez1--Thanks so much. Deleting the WebBrowser\ITBarlayout value seems to have done it. Did not even have to reboot.
    Weird.

Your welcome Jim. :) As for the "reboot" step, perhaps xp didn't need it. This may have been a standard step, posted per habit, meant to address a broad array of "using, modifying or correcting any system or application changes" on any version Windows. As you know, it is a safety factor meant to make or to help insure that a change sticks. The important thing is, it worked, and this particular nuisance is behind you.
