Does anyone know how to get scheduled tasks to WORK in WinXP.

I went to Control Panel/Scheduled tasks and set up times for defrag and clean disk to run, and they're not running.

All the proper controls have been checked

When I press Enter to accept, XP asks for a password, which I don't have a password on this computer. Why does it ask for a password to run scheduled tasks?

Why does MS make it so difficult

Seems with each upgrade to newer O/S they pile on more stuff and make it difficult for the little home user. I'm just a little guy, I don't have wireless, I don't have bells & whistles I just want a plain old computer to work.

Seems to go along with making it more secure. Not so much of a shock if you went from an NT system (NT4/2K) to XP but major culture shock for folks who came to XP from a 9X system (95/98/ME).

Also IMO M$ didn't do real well in trying so hard to make XP-home simpler and more user friendly than XP-Pro.

I have to agree with you, Newt. I use XP Home at work, and Pro at home (Huh?) and I can tell you without hesitation, Pro is definitely easier to use and more functional. I'm a fairly experienced computer user, and I stumble around in Home occasionally, trying to do something simple and having to go the long way around the barn to get there. But, I suppose that's best saved for another thread...
