When small windows appear in prgs (e.g. with options), some of the text and buttons do not appear in the windows and are therefor unreadable / unaccessable.
I guess something must have gone wrong with the system fonts. I already put everything in WinXP standard mode. The problem also occured before SP2, so...

I don't want to reinstall the complete system.
If anybody knows a solution I'd be very glad.
    Thx.

Welcome to the BBS Jos, :)

Update your graphics driver with latest available, then check your screen resolution. R click the desktop and select properties, settings. Suggest 1024x768 for a 17" monitor. True color 32 bit and 85Hz monitor refresh rate. For a 19" monitor, as above with 1152x864.

There may be a problem with system fonts, but suggest the above as first port of call.

    Hi Jos,

I used to have this problem with Win9x because I preferred to use the "Large" Fonts setting, and a surprising number of programs (including some of Microsoft's) were not written to take that into account.

Check to make sure you're using the Normal Font size setting on the Display Properties Appearance tab, then adjust font sizes as desired in the window opened by the Advanced button.

    Problem solved. :)

In \system32\cachedll delete all Tahoma and replace them with good ones.

    delete Tahoma in \fonts

right click on desktop - > properties > click to settings > advanced > DPI settings > set to 75% (is almost unreadable)
    restart WinXP

reset dpi settings to normal 100%
    restart WinXP

    All back to normal.

This probably forces WinXp to reset the font from \cachedll

Thanks for the replies anyway. :p

    Hi Jos,

I'm glad you solved your problem, and thanks for posting back.

The first part of your solution has me confused, though, as my Windows\system32 folder doesn't contain a \cachedll subfolder. There's a \dllcache subfolder, but it doesn't contain any references to individual fonts.

You're right, dllcache is the correct name.
You first have to delete the Tahoma in \fonts , then in \dllcache.
Deleting it in \fonts automatically copies it in dllcache. But since these were corrupt I had to delete them there too and replace them with new uncorrupted Tahomas.

Got it now, and I don't know why I missed the Tahoma fonts in \dllcache the first time ... I must have scrolled right past them.
