Winxp boot up problems

    :confused: I am having problems booting to win xp. It won't boot unless i have the xp cd in the drive, when the cd isnt in the machine stops on "searching for boot from CDROM "

    The machine was working ok, the problem only started yesterday!

    any help much appreciated

    It could be as simple as... your BIOS settings have changed?
    Check under BIOS FEATURES SETUP (or similar) that the Boot Sequence (First Boot) is set to the HD that the OS is on. I.E. C or HDD0.

    Post a copy of your boot.ini file (should be in the root of the system drive but will be hidden).

    bob da pc bilda - I did as my signature says with the email you sent and deleted it unread. I really like to keep all info about a problem on the thread for the benefit of others who might have the same issue and for input from others with knowledge to share.

    If you post a copy of your boot.ini file, we will have a starting point to troubleshoot this issue. If you are having problems finding the file, post that too and you will get detailed directions for finding it and copying contents here.
