    Hi WindowsBBS,

I just finished a thread in your malware forum where someone helped me remove a trojan. However, after the malware removal process, my audio started stuttering very badly. This has never happened before. It's not just the audio, either--sometimes games and YouTube videos will lag and stutter too.

    What I've done so far:

    - Disabled all unnecessary processes and services.

    - Made sure the primary/secondary IDE controllers were in DMA mode.

    - Uninstalled, one-by-one, the 66 Windows Updates that automatically installed during the malware removal process. No change, so I reinstalled them. (According to the Microsoft Windows Update site, my computer has all available updates right now.)

    - Updated audio, video, and Cintiq (my drawing-tablet-monitor) drivers.

    - DPC Latency Checker is currently my best lead. It shows heavy CPU spiking and recommends disabling drivers in the Device Manager one at a time to see which one is the culprit. However, I've disabled every non-essential device in the Device Manager with no luck (i.e. I disabled monitors, USB controllers, video/audio devices, DVD drives, etc, but I didn't touch anything related to the processor, hard drive, motherboard, etc).

I'm afraid one of the anti-malware tools (ComboFix or OTL, maybe?) has damaged some obscure internal mechanism. Maybe I'd save time by simply reinstalling Windows XP?

It would save some hassle if you just completed your system details rather than cut'n'paste from Everest;)

Please enter your System Details. It helps us in answering your questions!

My first step would be to install the lastest chipset drivers, I'd give further instruction but Everest gives no details about your motherboard, SIW may.

    Entered my System Details.

It would save everyone some hassle if this forum's "READ THIS FIRST" sticky specified where you want system information posted. The malware forum does a good job of this.

    Thanks :)

Posting Specifations is not mandatory, whereas posting logs in Malware is.

Having your specifications to hand does help though.

Do you still have the CD supplied with your motherboard? Reason I ask is your primary IDE is stuck in PIO mode and your Barracuda drive should really be using DMA transfer.

Yeah, took some digging but I found the motherboard CD. Thanks for reading through that other thread.

Did the CD resolve the problem?

No, it didn't. The CD had a motherboard and audio driver on it--I installed both, nothing happened.

Edit: I should mention the Primary IDE is still stuck in PIO mode.

Try uninstalling the primary IDE drivers and then rebooting.
