    Hi,
I read a couple threads about this topic but the setups/partitions are the opposite to mine:
    C:\Winxp
    D:\Win98se

I want to reinstall win98 w/updates and apps back on the D drive without reinstalling Winxp.
I want to image the D drive once it's reinstalled and burn it to cd so in the future I can go back to that image if anything goes wrong. Is this scheme possible using something like Drive Image? or any other program?
I want to keep everything the same ie:
    C:\winxp
    D:\Win98se

Anyone have any suggestions on how I could get this done?

What boot manager are you using?
Are you using some sort of hardware switch?

Well I tried the imaging scheme with Drive Image on a spare drive and it worked like a charm, booted into both os's with out a problem. wOOt!

    Mark,
What I did was install winxp(fat32) on C Drive, and create another partition/drive D(fat32) make sure XP is fat32 also because win98 can't write to NTFS.
Create an 98se startup disk, make sure that DEBUG.exe is on the startup disk. Create a notepad file with the following entries EXACTLY as below:

    L 100 2 0 1
    N C:\BOOTSECT.DOS
    R BX
    0
    R CX
    200
    W
    Q

the forth line down is a zero not an ohh.
Now save the notepad file to the Win98 startup disk as READ.SCR

Boot with the 98 startup disk(with cd support), let it load and at the A: prompt type:
X:\win98\setup.exe (x being your cd rom).
When prompted for install location choose other(my case D:\WINDOWS)
    and name the folder windows.
Complete the install, when its finished installing,
reboot with the custom Win98 startup disk, choose 'without cd support' and at the A: prompt type:
    DEBUG < READ.SCR
let it do its thing, it'll just hang after a couple min at a blinking cursor and no prompt so ctrl>alt>delete to reboot.
Reboot with Winxp cd after its done loading stuff, you'll have a couple choices, choose repair. Choose 1 for which xp installation. It'll ask for password which there isn't one in my case so hit enter.
At the C:\windows prompt type FIXBOOT
confirm, when FIXBOOTs finished type exit. Making sure to reconfigure to boot from HDD. thats it
