    Hi All,

Recently I upgraded my daughters computer to Mozilla 1.7.1. She is using Mozilla for browsing and for her e-mail. Now she has asked me the following:

I don't think this can be done. My experience composing in Word and other text programs, then copying and pasting into the e-mail indicates that the formating can get messed up. But, maybe someone has a possible solution. Thank you.

    Hi derfsch,

You are correct in that there is no automatic setting in Mozilla to use a specific text editor. There is an auto spell check in Mozilla email, if that is a concern... You are also on the mark about WinWord, as it certainly isn't compatible with Mozilla.

I use a small text editor, which is freeware, called NotesPad. It is compatible with Netscape/Mozilla. The formatting remains the same, when copied to the Compose window, as far as line wrap, and remembering paragraph tabs. It's available here: NotesPad, if your daughter wants to give it a try.

I use it mainly for Forum posting, as it has a spell check.

    Hi Ramona...

Have you tried Notespad on WinXP? The install gives me an error...says my C: Drive is not a valid drive. Oh well, sounded promising with the Spell Check... :(

    dobhar,

I see on the download page that the author does say that it is for Windows 9x, NT, and maybe W2K. I have had this for a while, so it is an older program. I have emailed the author, and asked if he is working on a Version for XP. It really is a great little program, and I would be disappointed if you are unable to use NotesPad. I'll post his reply, if I receive one. I have pointed him to this thread, so we may have a reply here...

Thanks for the alert, and so sorry it didn't work for you.

    Ramona and dobhar

Thank you for the prompt responses. I have installed Notespad on my Windows XP system, composed, sent, and received a message to myself using the mail of Mozilla 1.7.1. Everything is as you have said Ramona. It is a neat little program. I'll pass your information on to my daughter and let her decide if she wants to use it.

Terrific to hear that it works on XP! Glad that you like the little proggie too, and hoping that it will be useful to your daughter as well.

    derfsch,

I stumbled across this extension, while browsing another Forum. This might be something your daughter would be interested in: http://mozex.mozdev.org/
