I found a thread on your site via a Google search. No serious problem yet, but wanted to clean it off before things got out of hand. My HJT log is attached. I would appreciate an interpretation.

    Thanks.

    Welcome to WindowsBBS Diver Mike!:)

Right click the desktop and choose new>folder. Name it HJT. Cut and paste HijackThis.exe to that folder. That will keep backup files from scattering all over the desktop.

Download CWShredder from my sig. Save it to your desktop. If you don't already have it, download Ad-aware from my sig. also. Install and immediately update. Configure it for a custom full scan. Don't run it yet.

Go to start>run and type services.msc. Locate Wintools in the list, right click and stop. Right click again and select properties. Set to disabled and OK out.

Right click My Computer and choose properties. On system restore tab, check the box to turn off. OK out.

I will tell you right now that the res:// entries may require more to fix. It's been proving to be quite a bugger to remove at times. We'll give HJT, Ad-aware and CWShredder a try first and move on to other means if necessary. Please do everything in the order given. Scan again with HijackThis and place a check next to the following entries. Close ALL other windows and click fix.

    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch = res://C:\PROGRA~1\Toolbar\toolbar.dll/sa

Go to start>run and type msconfig, hit enter. On the boot.ini tab, check the box next to /safeboot and OK. Yes to restart. This will restart your computer in safe mode.

Now in safe mode, open C:\Program Files\Common files and delete the folder WinTools.
    Open C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB and rename realsched.exe to realsched.old
Open C:\Windows\Temp, select all and delete.
Open C:\Documents and settings\username\Local Settings\temp, select all and delete. Do this for all usernames.
Open C:\Windows\Prefetch, select all and delete.
Close ALL other windows, open CWShredder and click fix.
Open Ad-aware and run. Delete all it finds.
Open My Computer and right click Local Disk C:, then choose disk cleanup. Check all except compress old files and OK.
Uncheck the /safeboot box in msconfig and ok to reboot.

Back in Windows, you can re-enable system restore.

Surf around a bit and run another HijackThis scan, then post the log.

Thanks for the speedy reply. Boy was I surprised at the amount of junk still on my machine after trying so hard to keep Norton, et al up-to-date! You guys are amazing. Here is my new HJT log.

Looks good. :) Open Spybot and click immunize in the left pane, then immunize again, this time from above with the green + beside it. Click the link below that for SpywareBlaster, download, install and update.
    Then download and install IESpyads.

That will give you an added layer of protection against unwanted parasites. Keep an eye things for the next week or so and post back to this thread if anything shows back up.
