    Hey All,

Was just curious ... I am running 512 megs with 16 shared
leaves me 496 RAM and kinda wanted to bump it up to a GIG.
I know Windows98 wasnt really designed to run on more then 512 but there is a work around for it.

I am running a few programs that chomp away at the resources no to bad though. My question is, it really worth it to ad 512 more or will windows really see it and use it properly?

Any advise would be greatly appreciated

    Regards,
    FireDancer :)

I hate when people answer my posts when they don't know the answer. Sory, I have never tried 1 Gig of RAM in 98 so I can't say for sure. I did hear on TV or radio (maybe Tec TV?) and read in several different posts that poople with over 512 saw a DEcrease in proformance.

A search of this BBS will reveal quite a bit of discussion about 98SE and >512 megs of RAM. The conclusion , I think, was 98SE doesn't do more than 512.

Your system resources have nothing to do with how much RAM you have. Resources generally have to do with the number of windows you have open, the number of icons you have on the desktop and whether you are running resource hog programs. The later being the biggest culprit.

    I think, was 98SE doesn't do more than 512.

And some system with SE will not handle over 256meg.

It seems to be system dependent.

And unless you are running some real heavy duty stuff 256 is enough anyway. I only have 256meg with XP Pro and I have no problems. But I also have a 64meg video card.

And also I have read and/or been told that it can make a difference whether Ram is all one chip or more than one.

I am running 512 megs with 16 shared

If that 16meg of shared refers to Video then you might be better off to replace the Video card with something that does not need to share RAM. I think you would see a great improvement.
