Hi Bob, could be a problem with video card drivers getting corrupted somehow. Have you checked device manager? Is there a yellow exclamation at display adapters?

If so, re-install of drivers may fix it. It's been a long time since I upgraded to XP, but I think you can get to device manager either through right clicking your My Computer on the desktop, click properties on the drop down menu and look for device manager on one of the properties tabs. In XP it is under "Hardware" I just don't remember if 98SE is the same.

If that doesn't work for you, go to settings, control panel, system, should find device manager there.

Have your display adapter cd available, or go to MFG website and download the correct drivers, uninstall your video card in device manager and reboot the machine.

When Windows finds the display adapter and asks for drivers, point it to the CD or the downloaded drivers.

Hope this works for you, good luck.

Post back results, good or bad.

    Martin

Shouldn't be a problem - just be sure your 98SE has no problems first and bear in mind that some of your drivers may need updating to XP versions. The XP CD will have a version, but it's unlikely to be the latest.

Good idea to clean out Temp Internet Files, Temp files first and maybe do a check for spyware/malware. Seem to recall that a defrag is a good idea too.
