I have a new dell poweredge 600sc server running Windows 2000 Server as the OS. I turned on the Server made my settings configurations and installed some 3rd party software. Installed a external tape drive, did a backup. Logged in on another day and everything was fine. 5 days later, tried to log in with the administrator password and the password is not valid. Tried upper/lowercase, password is still invalid. Tried new keyboard, password is still invalid.
Was informed by Dell to reinstall the OS. Did that and tried to log in with NEW password and that new password is invalid.
What is causing this to happen. The server is not connected to the network yet.
    Please advise.
    Bill..

If it's not on the network, you can get away with yet another install and leave the adminstrator account with a blank password. See if that one continues to work or blows up.

If it works as a blank and you change it to some non-blank password only to have it refuse to recognize that one, then there is a hardware issue of some sort and the company needs to either fix it or replace it.

And just so you can better check things out with the new install, immediately after you get it loaded, add at least one additional user and make it a member of the local admin group.

You didn't say but I'd strongly suggest a reformat as part of the OS install.
