Hello, I recentently experienced the screen of death, and had to re format my HDD 250 gig which has been split into two sections. Windows xp installed successfully but it will only boot with the Windows XP CD in the CD drive. I am reluctant to continue with all my other installations as I know this not to be right and could end up with a problem when I plug in my 40 gig drive to collect my saved files. I thought it might have been that I had it set to boot from the CD at the time of instalation and not on HDD. The other problem is that I can't re install as it will not re do. It just keeps starting up like one would expect it to.

I really hope you can help me, I also wonder if Nero 7 is the reason why I keep having problems with my PC. This has happened three times now and only since I bought and installed Nero and then straight after I use Nero. I am using my Mac laptop at the moment until my desktop PC is working properly. I do hope you can help me, Thanks from Janette

Boot from the XP CD, and choose the option To repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery Console, press R.

Log into your Windows installation, then type fixboot.

    After that, type exit.

    More info on Recovery Console

    Hey Janette,

Will it boot into Windows only when the Windows XP CD is in the CD drive?

Just a suggestion, the BIOS may be set to boot from the CD-ROM first, and the hard drive second.

Change the boot options to the main hard drive in the BIOS settings.

    Will
