For network sharing with NT4/2K/XP systems (9x is totally different) on a workgroup LAN (as opposed to a domain) to work properly, each user needs to be logging on with a username and a non-blank password. It you don't like the hassle of logging on and security isn't an issue, TweakUI allows you to set up auto logon that works whenever the PC is powered on.

After that, your options are one of the following, presented in the order of least secure to most secure.
    - have each PC using the exact same username/password to log on.
    - enable the guest account in the local users section of each PC.
    - add each username/password to the local users section of each PC.

And I suggest you uncheck the setting on XP for 'use simple file sharing'. 2K doesn't have this particular feature.

    still can't

    hi,
i still cant solve the problem. but there is a wrong info that i gave u before. Its not XP Pro, but Home Edition ( if it gonna make a difference but i hope so ). Ive turn on login password for each pcs. but now im not only have to enter the 'user name' but also their 'password'. Before i only have to enter "administrator' in the user name field n leave the password field blank.

    Thanx:(

Yup. You will need to enter the username and password. However, when we get things working, you can use TweakUI to have it autologon with that name/password so you won't have to mess with the typing.

If you ever need to use a different logon, just hold down the SHIFT key while starting the PC and it will stop at the logon for you to enter information.

The main difference between XP-pro and XP-home in this case is that lots of user account/security things you can do directly on XP-Pro require you to log on in safe mode with the administrator account to be able to do with XP-home.

Now for some additional information to help troubleshoot the thing.

    - do all the PCs have Client for Microsoft Networking loaded?
    - do all the PCs have file and printer sharing turned on?
    - do all the PCs have at least one file/folder/printer shared?
    - are all the PCs using the same workgroup name?

Do the following from the problem PC and one working PC and post the resulting contents of the two text files you'll create in here. Note that you will not see results on screen since they are being sent directly to a file.

    start~run~cmd
    ipconfig /all > c:\ipconfig.txt
