windows xp virus

I have zonealarm antivirus/internet security and am having one virus after another. it says it deletes them, or fixes them but they keep coming. today someone suggested i do the panda online scan and it found one infected file, dont know yet if it will fix.

i turned off restore points and scanned again last week and all was well but not now

i want to purchase a new internet security ..but not nortons. am thinking of panda or mcaffee

could you please tell me what you would suggest
when pands finishes its scan ill turn off restore points and restart machine
but oviously zonelarm antivirus is not stopping these things to begin with

or do i need to get rid of everything on my machine and start over.. what a mess
