Hey, I'm running windows xp professional, and I want it to look like windows xp.. butthe problem is.. there is no windows xp theme listed. There's only the classic windows theme listed when I go to change it. I tried to install the themes from my disk.. but I can't do it. Maybe i;m doing it wrong, I dunno.. but someone please help! !

    Welcome to WindowsBBS spayzant :)

Copy the contents of the quote box below to a blank notepad. Make sure the formatting remains the same.
    Close it, saving to your desktop as;

    File name: themes.reg
    Save As Type: All Files
Double click the file and allow it to merge with the registry.

Reboot and see if your theme is working. If not proceed with the instructions below.

Copy the contents of the quote box below to a blank notepad.
Close it, saving to your desktop as:

    File name: look.bat
    Save As Type: All Files

    dir %systemroot%\Resources\Themes /s /a h > files.txt
    start notepad files.txt

Doubleclick on it and notepad will open with some text in it.
Copy and paste this in your next reply.

ok, so, i figured i'd try and get one of those themes to come up in my list (the ones listed above) by going to browse, & going to the folder, etc. When I clicked on it.. it said "the theme could not be loaded because the theme service is not running. You can turn the service on in the Computer Management Administrator tool in the control panel"

soo.. how do I do this?? i don't want to go messging around with stuff in there and ***** up my computer

I just spotted a space in the reg file I posted, put there by the forum software, that I missed editing out when posting it. I've fixed it. Please highlight and copy the contents of the quote box in my first post again. Right click the themes.reg file on your desktop and select edit to open it in notepad. When it opens, click Edit>Select All, then Edit>Paste. Close and save the changes. Double click the themes.reg and allow it to merge into the registry. Reboot.

    Let us know.

If it still doesn't work after running the edited reg file and a reboot, click Start>Run and type services.msc then hit Enter to open the Services Console. Scroll down the list to Themes and double click the entry. The Startup Type should be Automatic and the service can be started from there. If you do change the startup type, click Apply before exiting the properties dialog.
