I have tried to update from WinXP Pro to the service Pack 2 update. When I did this it would stop at the VIA 4in1 driver viaagp.sys file installation. I pointed it to the file on the harddrive and also on CD but would not load. It tries then shuts down with an error of "IRQL_OR_LESS "

I cannot get through this portion. Now its just stopped loaded at that point and shuts down without asking for it..

What can I do to fix this without having to reformat the drive and starting over.. I didnt back anything up(thinking it was just and update) silly me)

    Please help..
    Thanks

Ouch. At this point I suggest you try booting from your original XP CD and doing a repair install. Hopefully it will give you a working OS without your losing lots of stuff.

If that happens, I'd certainly suggest burning copies of important stuff to some data CDs. Then make a copy of XP with SP2 slipstreamed (so integrated) into XP and try the update with that. They usually run lots cleaner than just trying to load SP2.

I'd also have to say it's very possible that you have a bad copy of SP2 so if it were me, I'd get a clean copy before trying to work with it any further.

    4 in 1 driver

I've had this problem, also. I think I got around it by cancelling the driver installation and letting the normal system install proceed. Then, I ran the driver install app afterwards.

    Good luck
