    Hi

I have used XP's search to find *.tmp files - I must be doing something wrong as no matter where I search the results show nothing

I know this cannot be right as there should be a LOT as these are files which multiply !!!
I know I regulary empty IE files ( offline ones also ) Apart from this surely I should have a collection like everyone else.

I would be grateful if someone would advise as to why search finds nothing .....

    I know I like a tidy PC but I don't think it's that tidy !

    Hi

I made sure it was looking in all drives ( partitions ) I even used the advanced to select hidden - just in case - still nothing but a tired dog :(

    Just here now !

    Hi

Only getting online now ( sorry if you thought I was ignoring the advice .... )

Thank you for the Link - I have a question about #3 - NOTE : you may need your Windosw disc - :( As my LT came with XP - OEM !!!! I do not have an actual XP disc ( limitations as to what is on the discs provided !!! )

I do have an XP full version as this is on my DT - if the disc was required would I be able to use this one ??

I hope you do not mind my further questions. I just need to be more confident in what I should be doing
I would like to get this fixed as I hate to think something is not wroking as it should.

Abraxas - Thank you for this link. Just a few wee questions about this one. Is it a little program I can run as a stand alone that will return with CLEAR answers ??? I like the sound of less quirky !
Do you use this successfully ?

Thanks to both of you - much needed advice. Even if I manage to fix XP's search - I do not even know why it's not working correctly as I had rarely used it  The other program may just be what I need - a straigtforward search .........

Agent Ransack is easily uninstalled if you don't like it.

    Here are some unsolicited testimonials:

The only time I see that little dog now is when I click on the wrong button. It can put in a context menu entry for itself if you want, too, for searching folders and drives, and has the option for a link in Start > Search.

The problems with MS search just seem to multiply. Even when you think you have it working, you discover that only certain file-types are searched for text strings (instructions at MS KB on adding more types), but the worst thing is its slowness.

Save it for children who appreciate the dog.
